I don't often go into Kookai but thought I might take a look at the online store.
I was SO AMAZED to find this necklace! And it's only $40? Cheap for Kookai I think! I'll definitely be picking one up next time I'm near a store.

I'm obsessed with collecting images of statement necklaces at the moment. Most of them are collar necklaces (thats a whooooole other post right there), but I just really can't resist the chokers. These are my favourites. Even though the first two are totally out of reach for me, I just had to include them.

Burdatyle high waisted shorts + art

Photography Michael Dooney

The shorts
I made these high waisted shorts from the Burdastyle Easy magazine. My poor German language skills ensured that there were a few mishaps along the way. After tracing and cutting the pattern pieces and fabric I pinned the shorts together to check the fit. I had great difficulty trying to squeeze into the shorts and decided to add lace panels to the sides of the shorts. Amazingly the panels solved the sizing problem and I later found out from my German sewing friends that these mags don't include the seam allowance. Once again I have learnt 2 lessons the hard way. Always add your seam allowance for the Burdastyle magazine patterns and for goodness sake work on your German language skills mahaila!
The earrings
If you look closely you can see my Pacman earrings. My friend E bought them for my birthday. I love them, they're so cute!

Berlin + Art
On this particular 'Burdastyle striped shorts wearing weekend' we visited some galleries for the Gallery weekend - Berlin. I seem to have developed a love/hate relationship with the art world. I find myself incredibly inspired one minute and then completely uninspired the next. One piece which triumphed head and shoulders above the rest was the interactive installation by Tim Noble and Sue Webster named Turning the seventh corner. I felt anxious as I followed the dark passage around several dimly lit corners. This anxious feeling soon shifted to intrigue as we turned the seventh corner and found the light and shadow sculpture. I found this such an interesting piece as it was so simple yet complex at the same time. Love it!

Finds at the Berlin markets: Ostbahnhof antique and Mauermarkt

Here in Berlin, there are sssooooo many markets to visit. It all depends on what you are looking for. I purchased this jumper for 2 euros at the most famous market : Mauermarkt. Many girls and guys take their unwanted clothes down there, so you can be sure to find a diamond in amongst the many roughs. The major down side to the Mauermarkt is that it's fame has resulted in overcrowding. You end up shuffling along with the rest of the herd peering through the many bodies, trying to sneak a peak at the many stalls. My advise, if you intend to find a treasure Go Early! Otherwise you can just hang around on the "grassed" (really it is sand) area and watch the famous karaoke show cases.
The Ostbahnhof antique markets is a history lesson in its self. The selection of stalls are interesting: old postcards, stamps, coins, antique jewellery, DDR artefacts, antique house hold goods. I found this little DDR bird brooch for 1 Euro. I suspect that it is a kids brooch... what can I say? I am a fan of primary colours, birds and cutesy things! So it was a good find for me.

I made these shorts a while back and wore them for the Berlin Beer fest (blogged here) and in Vienna (blogged here). I love these shorts. They are very versatile as I can wear them with heaps of stuff. I definitely need to make another pair!

These photos were taken whilst venturing up north into the German forest. The forest surrounds numerous lakes which are really lovely. I often feel a little nautical when wearing this jumper, and therefore thought that it would be appropriate to take photos near the water. This location was certainly serene. Aahhhh the serenity.... buzzz, buzzz (sorry having flash backs to the film 'the castle'). We were just missing our fishing rods. Maybe next time.

(Dress: Temt. Vest: Sportsgirl. Jacket: Topshop ( <------- remember it in one of the very first Fickle Sense posts???). Shoes: Jessica Simpson. Jewellery: Various.)

I want to layer this vest over and under EVERYTHING. It's very heavy, so I'm aware of it all the time. I love clothes that you can 'feel' on your body in one way or another. Kind of in the same way that I like to balance on super high shoes..... and in the same way that I love having a long and heavy velvet maxi dress swooshing around my legs. Fashion is supposed to be fun, and while others may detest having things dangling, swooshing, clunking, hanging, tugging and clinking on their body, my sensory system craves the constant sensory input. Pleeeaaaase tell me I'm not the only one??

forks and spoons

It's no secret that I am obsessed with rings. I love finding new and interesting pieces to add to my collection. On one of her recent craft show visits, my mum found two rings for me... they are both made from cutlery! Naturally I turned to my trusty ring bible... Etsy!!! Just like my crystal bullet necklace, there are heaps of different sellers, each with a different price range.

I told all of my friends about my new and intriguing discovery. My bubble was burst when somebody told me that these were around in the 1960's and is certainly nothing new. Having said that, I love how fashions never disappear. Younger generations can wear and love the same trends that women had decades ago.

Can you guess which of my rings are made of cutlery?

Recent purchases / Perth blogger meet up

These are some recent purchases from this eBay seller. I have made it a rule for myself to only buy sterling silver rings. I hate it when rings leave that green shit on your fingers and they become pink-coloured and tarnished. This seller has very affordable sterling silver pieces. Win!

On another note, the Perth fashion blogger meet up is this Sunday! Unfortunately mahaila won't be able to come with me (obviously), so I'm a one man band! Im really excited to meet other Perth fashion bloggers. Will I be seeing you there? :)

When I got home from work today, two parcels were waiting at my doorstep. I gave a little squeal when I saw them. Eeeeeekkk! I've now mastered the art of opening any kind of parcel with my car key.......... taped up boxes, the thick plastic that Australia Post parcels are made of, bubble wrap.... you name it, my key has been through it.

Parcel 1
As I've mentioned previously on the blog, I always wait for Shakuhachi's predictable 50% off end-of-season sale. It is now becoming some kind of sick and twisted internet-shopping tradition. I never buy anything full price knowing the sale will be coming, and I patiently wait to purchase the dregs of their previous collection for half the price. "Dregs" is a little harsh, because as you can see, I did pretty well this season. Check my spiderweb-y beaded dress............. I also treated myself to a little bandaged number  <------- I'll post asap!

Parcel 2
The other parcel contained this Elizabeth & James ring. Call me ambitious, but I have a good mind to compare this baby to the Maniamania Immortals ring.  It's not quite as amazing, but it's a quarter of the price. A semi-precious stone encased in a strange sterling silver formation. I would say that the look is achieved - and SOLD OUT according to Shopbop.

In other news, I'm getting my hair done in two days........
Short and blonde. Hopefully the hair gods will be in my favour.

While browsing through the Asos website I was surprised to find so many weird and wonderful pieces of jewellery. The secret??? Go to the jewellery section, and instead of choosing "bracelets", "rings" or "necklaces", click "OTHER". Any jewellery that cannot be categorised under conventional headings is my kind of jewellery.

(Dress: Young Fabulous and Broke. Shoes: Jessica Simpson)

I wore this to a 21st birthday party over the weekend. One guy informed me that my shoes "have a large base", while there were a few girls that asked "how the f*&@ do you walk in those?!" For those of you interested in the infamous Dany platform, these shoes are insanely comfortable. I put them on at 6:30pm and didn't take them off until I realised the sun was up and I was still dressed like this.....

(Leather pants: Selected Femme. Top: Topshop. Lips: Topshop lips in Vamp. Shoes: Topshop. Necklaces: vintage and Fashionology)

These leather pants are buttery soft and so comfortable. I always thought that leather pants would be sweaty and horrible put these just feel like a pair of jeans...... I'm probably not game to wear them above 18 degrees Celsius though.

These were taken at The Loft in Fremantle (a pub I posted about here). Robert and I went for a couple of glasses of red wine and cheese. Definitely one of the places I'm looking forward to revisiting when mahaila comes back to Australia in a month's time.
