SEWING: Shoulder line Princess Seam navy dress

I have been busy drafting princess seam dresses lately. This navy dress is a shoulder line princess seam dress. I still struggle to fit clothing to myself. But I think that the fit is OK. I feel a bit 60's when I wear it, just because the dress is quite short.

We took these photos in the middle of the large round about at Strausberger platz. Olafur Ellison featured one of his mirror installations here.

More princess seam dresses to come!

  1. Love it, love how you've styled it. Did you use a formula for spacing the box pleats, or just do half on a mannequin or something and then notch the other side? Or was it all flat-pattern drafting?

    1. Hi, Thanks heaps for your question. When pleating skirt sections I tend to use different techniques.... but with this skirt I estimated the length that I wanted, then cut the fabric and box pleated it on the floor (I am naughty, because I don't measure, rather I do it by eye.... I should really measure it) Pinned it to the bodice, then checked the positioning of the pleats. Everything looked good so I sewed the skirt section together, then sewed it to the bodice. Then inserted the zipper. I often do it on a mannequin too. I really do need to measure it, and draft a pattern.... I suppose I should really get around to doing that. It probably would make the sewing process a lot easier. thanks again for your question and lovely comment:)

    1. Initially I wasn't too keen on navy, but I have found that it is a versatile colour which matches heaps of stuff... so I am converted! thanks for your sharing your lovely thought:)
