Truer words have never been spoken. I never thought I would be wearing an outfit laden with so many designer names, but thanks to my new clothes resolution (and some serious internet stalking/ bargain hunting) I've been able to save up the dosh for some things I've really wanted. 

I've had these jeans for such a long time and it's disappointing that they're only appearing on the blog now. When I saw them on The New Guard for 70% off I clicked them home... like ASAP.... like heart palpitations etc etc.....

Kitten heel - 1, Kaye - 0

I've said it once and I'll say it again... platform shoes are so much easier to walk in than most heels! No matter how high they are, platforms are amazingly comfortable - I'm talking about the shoes worn previously here, here and here. As these Witchery shoes have a low kitten heel, I had planned for them to be my go-to's, but they are oh-so painful. I love their asymmetry, but the tough patent leather does not agree with my big toe. The strap kept slipping off my heel and so after tackling with it for an hour, they were swapped for flats :(

My Paris memento

This hair cuff was my only purchase from Paris. I was with a couple of girls from my Contiki tour and we wondered into the H&M on the Champs Elysées in an attempt to find something affordable from the iconic street. We only had minutes until we had to be back at the hotel before the bus left the city. Anybody that has been on a Contiki tour knows how strict the time limitations are. We RAN through the store, shoving our feet into ballet flats, frantically wrapping scarves around our necks and ramming rings onto our fingers in an attempt to find a memento. Feeling somewhat defeated, I almost left with nothing.... until I spotted this cuff. The size of this cuff meant that it could serve only one purpose - to sit atop my head :)

I wore this when I went to Made on the Left with Robert last weekend. Mum bought me this bag for me to use when I visit Mahaila in Germany (wooooooo!! 12 days until I leave Australia!). Depending on the way you attach the straps, it can be a handbag or a backpack! Trust mum to make sure I have something practical and useful for my trip. The great thing about this one is that it looks more like a handbag than a backpack... and the really surprising part? I LOVE that it's chocolate brown. I definitely wouldn't have imagined that this colour would fit into my wardrobe. Somehow, it does. Alas, mothers always know best.

seeing red

Looking at the outfit references above, I should really widen my shopping horizons. Yes I am a fan of Asos and Topshop. I find that if I shop retail, I end up buying a heap of shit that I don't wear. Whereas if a product is online, I mull over it for days deciding if I want to buy it. These days, I usually decide that I don't want need the product in question. My wardrobe (and my wallet) thanks me for this system. 

Now, about the red jeans. I wasn't a huge fan of the coloured skinny jean trend at first.... it reminded me of when I was in high school and the pages of Cosmopolitan were ridden with images of celebrities wearing bright, candy coloured bottoms.... yuk. However, I couldn't resist the combination of bright red and nude. I am stoked with how easily these jeans brighten up a dull winter's day.

The boy and I took a small weekend getaway down south to a town called Karridale. We hired a cheap cottage with a wood fire and spent the two days at the local wineries. I whined like a two year old when it was time to go home on Monday morning. 

Never say never when it comes to fashion. I've been draping myself in different hues of velvet (here and here), and now flares. Berry coloured flares, no less. After getting weird looks at the local fish n' chip shop by asking for raw fish, Robert pointed out, "Well we don't exactly look like locals, you and your bright pink flares." 

They are not pink, they are berry.... jeez.

back to basics

I wore this when Robert and I went out for coffee together. These shoes make the weirdest "clopping" sound when I walk... I think it makes them kind of special. These jeans suffered the same fate as the jeans I posted here. They got the cheese-grater treatment. I think it stops them looking so.... clean.

Robert and I had dinner at Jus Burgers in Leederville last night. Delicious gourmet burgers with real onion rings. So bloody good. 

This nebula top was an impulse buy from Asos... I wasn't sure how much wear I would get out of it (seeing as I'm not usually one for digital prints as I find they can 'swamp' me) but now I'm convinced I'll be wearing it throughout the summer. It gives that extra kick of grunge to an outfit. 

P.S. My half of Challenge Number 2 is coming up........... I'm taking a crack at the DIY turban/headband that mahaila created a couple of posts ago.... let's see how successful I am. Because let's be honest, if I can do it, anybody can.

Stopped by the beach on the way home from IKEA. The sun was setting and as soon as I stepped onto the sand I had to take off my leather jacket, scarf and boots to really enjoy the sunset. The perfect taste of the exciting summer to come. 

I've had these jeans since high school and I can't let go of them (remember when I wore them in this post?) I decided a while ago that I needed to re-invent them so I attacked them with a cheese grater and steak knife, then left them in some diluted bleach for a couple of days. 

On the Bright Side

I went to On the Bright Side with Shawn and a few mates some weeks ago. I'm not used to this kind of music but I really enjoyed the day. Angus and Julia Stone were my favourite act. Listen to the song I've attached and you will see why. I love Julia's long red skirt and she had a cute little plait in her hair. 

The photos of me were taken in Robert's backyard. The couches outside remind me of this post from The Sartorialist. I could try and give a practical reason for why Australians use couches for outside decor: 1) Our heat is very dry which means the couches don't go mouldy?? 2) Students can't afford outdoor furniture so we just do what we can by taking from verge-side pick-ups?? All I know is that when we got back from On the Bright Side, there was a party going on with amazing tunes, a few too many drinks, people sprawled out on comfortable couches and a mean bonfire fueled with the wood of broken furniture.
