The boy and I took a small weekend getaway down south to a town called Karridale. We hired a cheap cottage with a wood fire and spent the two days at the local wineries. I whined like a two year old when it was time to go home on Monday morning.
Never say never when it comes to fashion. I've been draping myself in different hues of velvet (here and here), and now flares. Berry coloured flares, no less. After getting weird looks at the local fish n' chip shop by asking for raw fish, Robert pointed out, "Well we don't exactly look like locals, you and your bright pink flares."

They are not pink, they are berry.... jeez.

Finds at the Berlin markets: Ostbahnhof antique and Mauermarkt

Here in Berlin, there are sssooooo many markets to visit. It all depends on what you are looking for. I purchased this jumper for 2 euros at the most famous market : Mauermarkt. Many girls and guys take their unwanted clothes down there, so you can be sure to find a diamond in amongst the many roughs. The major down side to the Mauermarkt is that it's fame has resulted in overcrowding. You end up shuffling along with the rest of the herd peering through the many bodies, trying to sneak a peak at the many stalls. My advise, if you intend to find a treasure Go Early! Otherwise you can just hang around on the "grassed" (really it is sand) area and watch the famous karaoke show cases.
The Ostbahnhof antique markets is a history lesson in its self. The selection of stalls are interesting: old postcards, stamps, coins, antique jewellery, DDR artefacts, antique house hold goods. I found this little DDR bird brooch for 1 Euro. I suspect that it is a kids brooch... what can I say? I am a fan of primary colours, birds and cutesy things! So it was a good find for me.

I made these shorts a while back and wore them for the Berlin Beer fest (blogged here) and in Vienna (blogged here). I love these shorts. They are very versatile as I can wear them with heaps of stuff. I definitely need to make another pair!

These photos were taken whilst venturing up north into the German forest. The forest surrounds numerous lakes which are really lovely. I often feel a little nautical when wearing this jumper, and therefore thought that it would be appropriate to take photos near the water. This location was certainly serene. Aahhhh the serenity.... buzzz, buzzz (sorry having flash backs to the film 'the castle'). We were just missing our fishing rods. Maybe next time.

Roscoe

I'm still dreaming about those bloody Balenciaga boots......

Thankfully, Jeffrey Campbell has come to the rescue. I'll just have to settle for his Roscoe. I quite like that Jeffrey has tweaked the original design...it's not so much of a blatant knock off like some of his other designs. As much as I like the "robo-cop" look of the original, the rust-coloured suede and giant gold clips make for a nice alternative.

I would have been happier if the soles were smothered in studs, but I'm sure I'll survive.

Hurricane festival!....the rain and the wind

As Aussies we are used to festivals being very hot and summery.  Last weekend our German festival experience proved otherwise. We spent a few rainy and cold days at the Hurricane festival. We were extremely ill prepared. No Gum boots, no poncho and little cold/wet weather gear. How silly!!! It is incredibly hilarious how fashion goes out the window when your survival instincts kick in. The rubbish bag was my number 1 garment for the weekend. I made my rubbish bag into a very unfashionable raincoat with a hoodie.
Upon arriving at 10 in the morning, we witnessed MANY drunken people walking through the camp site with beer cans in their hands. 'It's a bit early, isn't it?' we thought, well apparently it is never too early for a beer. Throughout the entire festival there were people at all hours of the day drinking. By the end of the festival many of the men seemed to regress to a Neanderthal like state. Smashing and hitting anything they could get their grubby hands on. Tents, pavilions, sleeping bags, food. We even found some burnt out gas bottles. I am surprised nothing exploded! So it all progressed into something quite grotty.

BUT to the most important thing, THE MUSIC!
Some great performances worth a mention were Arcade Fire, Suede, the Klaxons, Elbow, Portishead.

My 2 favourites were Warpaint and The Kills! Have a listen!

WARPAINT
Warpaint play psychodelic like rock with sweet sweet! voices.

The Kills certainly put on a good show and are incredible performers. You can't your eyes off them and there are only 2 of them!

THE KILLS

We have 2 more festivals to go to this summer. So stay tuned for those adventures!

Photos taken by the lovely girls over at Lefanciulle

So here is my camera. Do you like his outfit? White is the new black. He may not be a Nikon or a Canon... but he wears his Pentax label with pride. In fact when I whip him out of my handbag, he usually gets more comments than I do.

Couldn't help but steal these pics from Trish and Steph. I love my him, and yet have never taken his picture.

Last night was the blogger meet-up at Deville's Pad. I had forgotten how much I love this place....

Apologies for the lack of photos, I really only had a few decent snaps! Sometimes you just want to forget about your camera and have a good time. We drank, danced, watched the 40-something's dance with each others' partners (group consensus was that they were swingers) and enjoyed drag queen entertainment. How could this night possibly get any more amazing or be any more enjoyable?? The singer from the band was wearing creepers!! I'm glad I got a shot of these suckers.....

Thanks to Jessie, Tara, Steph, Trish, Ally, Alexis and Lisa for a wonderful night. Let's not leave it too long before our next night out! :)

(Dress: Temt. Vest: Sportsgirl. Jacket: Topshop ( <------- remember it in one of the very first Fickle Sense posts???). Shoes: Jessica Simpson. Jewellery: Various.)

I want to layer this vest over and under EVERYTHING. It's very heavy, so I'm aware of it all the time. I love clothes that you can 'feel' on your body in one way or another. Kind of in the same way that I like to balance on super high shoes..... and in the same way that I love having a long and heavy velvet maxi dress swooshing around my legs. Fashion is supposed to be fun, and while others may detest having things dangling, swooshing, clunking, hanging, tugging and clinking on their body, my sensory system craves the constant sensory input. Pleeeaaaase tell me I'm not the only one??

Jumpsuit from Burdastyle

These are the first set of photos from our trip to the German forest. We ventured to the north and checked out some of the towns around Lychen. It felt a little like home, being surrounded by the wildlife and bush like terrain. We decided to get up early to catch the morning sun rays for these photos.

I am going through a 'making clothes from already existing patterns rather then my own' phase at the moment. I don't really know why, perhaps I just need an already existing puzzle. This jumpsuit is from the last Burdastyle:easy mag. Yes! this jumpsuit was fairly easy to construct (though my poor German language skills make it a little more challenging). I have always been skeptical about these type of pants and felt that I might look ridiculous in them. But I was pleasantly surprised. I saw this fabric at the markets and couldn't resist the purchase. Initially I was going to add a contrasting colour (red) for the waist, but decided against it when I was having flash backs to Rafael from the teenage mutant ninja turtles. All I needed were some 3 pronged daggers to complete the look. Therefore the black lace was chosen.

(Skirt: borrowed from mum. Top: Valleygirl. Boots: Shoebox. Cuff: Bought in Thailand. Bag: Borrowed from mum. Jewellery: Various)

I found this skirt in one of mum's forgotten boxes of clothes. The mauve/purple/pinkish colour work really well with the thick sheer material.

I'll tell you what doesn't appeal to me.... shoes that aren't black. These shoes don't get nearly as much attention as my destroyed black boots. Come to think of it, neither do my blush Topshop Wisteria Wedges....... I should stop kidding myself with all these fancy shmancy colour variations. I do love my black.

CUT mag 4 dress! + Berlin parks

The other weekend we took the tram north up to Prenzlauerberg Volkspark to take these photos. It was an interesting park and it definitely had a strange feeling about it. This visit further clarified that Volkspark Friedrichshain is our favourite park in Berlin. It is well maintained, there are numerous sporting areas (we spend WAY too many hours playing table tennis there!), you can lay for hours in the sun, have grills and visit the fairytale fountain.
However one thing that many of these parks have in common are the some what out of place high hills. To the casual observer these hills are great for fitness and there is always a fantastic view, however there is a history to these artificial hills. These hills are in fact piles of rubble or Schuttberg. After WW2 rubble was transported to these park areas and built up to create these high points. Berlin is so full of history and it is incredibly easy to walk around completely oblivious to it all. Naturally, the more we explore the city the more insight we gain.

DRESS!
This dress is a pattern from CUT magazine number 4 (CUT is a german sewing mag that you can get here). The skirt section (with the houses on it) is made out of a curtains and the striped material on the bodice is from the markets. I do like to silhouette of the dress, it is definitely a cute day time dress.
