DIY holey shredded jumper - tutorial

Photobucket

Tutorial

As promised (albeit a little tardy), here is the tutorial for my shredded jumper I almost didn't make this tutorial because its so easy peasy! Also because there are already some really great tutorials on tee shredding (this is a fav of mine). But I thought I'd post mine anyway.

You will need
Just a pair of scissors and a jumper with a fine knit.
I was actually eyeing this one from Topshop for a while. So glad I waited because this guy was only $12 from Kmart!

Step 1: Cut
First have a look at where you want your holes. I just mapped it out in my brrrraaaiiiiinnnn but you might want to use chalk.

Step 2: Pull
Gently tug at the top section of the whole you have made. You'll see some threads come loose.

Step 3: Shred
Following the grain of the knit, keep pulling the threads apart until you have a decent section of loosened thread.

That's really it! There are loads of shredding tutorials on Youtube so hit those up too!

I am not normally one for clothing/accessories that convert. I don't like the idea that something can be worn a number of different ways - it means that the item in question is always pretending to be something it's not. (If you have been following fickle sense for a little while now, you may know that I give my clothes personalities and make up little stories about them in my head). But, I have been making some exceptions to this "rule of fraud" as I like to call it (obvs I just made that up then....). It started with the handbag/backpack, and now I love this crop knit. By day, its a jumper, by night... it's a scarf! Thats right, I wrap it around my neck and nobody knows the difference!

Finds at the Berlin markets: Ostbahnhof antique and Mauermarkt

Here in Berlin, there are sssooooo many markets to visit. It all depends on what you are looking for. I purchased this jumper for 2 euros at the most famous market : Mauermarkt. Many girls and guys take their unwanted clothes down there, so you can be sure to find a diamond in amongst the many roughs. The major down side to the Mauermarkt is that it's fame has resulted in overcrowding. You end up shuffling along with the rest of the herd peering through the many bodies, trying to sneak a peak at the many stalls. My advise, if you intend to find a treasure Go Early! Otherwise you can just hang around on the "grassed" (really it is sand) area and watch the famous karaoke show cases.
The Ostbahnhof antique markets is a history lesson in its self. The selection of stalls are interesting: old postcards, stamps, coins, antique jewellery, DDR artefacts, antique house hold goods. I found this little DDR bird brooch for 1 Euro. I suspect that it is a kids brooch... what can I say? I am a fan of primary colours, birds and cutesy things! So it was a good find for me.

I made these shorts a while back and wore them for the Berlin Beer fest (blogged here) and in Vienna (blogged here). I love these shorts. They are very versatile as I can wear them with heaps of stuff. I definitely need to make another pair!

These photos were taken whilst venturing up north into the German forest. The forest surrounds numerous lakes which are really lovely. I often feel a little nautical when wearing this jumper, and therefore thought that it would be appropriate to take photos near the water. This location was certainly serene. Aahhhh the serenity.... buzzz, buzzz (sorry having flash backs to the film 'the castle'). We were just missing our fishing rods. Maybe next time.

(Jumper: Woolovers, shorts: Topshop, socks: Topshop, shoes: Steve Madden)

I love clothes that are deceiving. These shorts look like a skirt that is just too short, but the little division between the legs make them only just wearable.

I've been after a camel coloured jumper for a while, and had been looking in chain stores because I wanted one that wouldn't break the bank. It turns out I had been looking in all the wrong places. I found this one at Woolovers, which looks like a site for people in their 50's. It has heaps of different jumpers in a huge range of colours and fabrics. This one is made of lamb's wool and its super comfy. I'm so glad the picture on the site didn't stop me from purchasing it:

Maybe I should buy one for Robert too.
